How i developed the als materials

Updated: Jul 21, 2022

I was met with an instant problem the moment my development phase started. My gatekeeper set a very close target date for the implementation because the ALS students are already having their exams soon. I only had one to two weeks to develop three materials for the instructional design: a self-learning module, a teacher's guide, and an evaluation sheet.

To comply with the schedule, I chose not to produce my own video for the instructional media anymore. The initial plan was to create a video entitled "How to Avoid Being a Victim of Fraud" as part of the topic for day 2. This decision made me feel regretful since I would not be able to practice what I learned in EDS153 about creating multimedia materials for learners. My solution to the problem is to use the guidelines for creating multimedia materials as a set of standards for selecting them.

Open-source materials can be freely used, modified, and distributed to fulfill the learners' needs (Wiley, 2009). I found a simple infographic entitled "How Juan Dela Cruz is Phished" from Banco de Oro and used it for the learning material. In terms of structure, it has an appropriate layout and the text is readable. Content-wise, the material may not necessarily be about "avoiding" being scammed. But it shows a realistic scenario of what it's like to be scammed. Therefore, it is aligned with the intended learning outcome.

Other than that, everything else went smoothly. I was able to continuously ask for my gatekeeper's feedback for changes despite the time constraints.

You may see my final instructional material and teacher's guide on Appendix D and E. I cannot wait to share with everyone how the implementation went!
